Horror games have always been a genre that moves mountains of fans; some of them completely fascinated by the feeling of fear and others only looking for a bit of adrenaline. This is because horror has the ability to affect us in ways that other genres cannot imagine. When you play, you are the one in danger, you are the one about to be eaten or slaughtered, and if it is not you, it is your beloved character.

Of course, in the new smartphone era, the appearance of horror games cannot slow down, and now you have your App Store or Google Play full of scary games to hang out with. Most of them are just copies of the copies of the copies. Nevertheless, some can be saved from the oblivion and be decent games in its genre. Others stand out and can be considered great horror titles, even when we are talking about mobile platforms. Do you want to be scared to death? Play my top 5 scariest mobile games, and you will have to think twice about turning off the lights.
5. Jeff the Killer REVENGE
Before talking about the game, let’s situate ourselves and meet Jeff the Killer. He is a very successful character from the creepypasta, created in 2008. Just seeing its face, we can guess why he is so famous; he is quite creepy and scary. His favorite sentence is "Go to Sleep", and usually, it is the last thing his victims will ever hear before Jeff destroy them in an atrocious way. He started his story as a boy, a loving brother, who due to a series of tragic events, becomes a dreadful killer with a long list of deaths at his back.

The gameplay of Jeff the Killer REVENGE is quite similar to the Slender games, but the guys of I Need Play have done it well. You are located in a creepy place, bloody enough to make you flee in horror, yet you can't. Doors are locked, and you need to find the keys to be able to escape, but you are not alone. You know someone is stalking you - can you guess who it is?
4. Dark Meadow: The Pact
Dark Meadow: The Pact is a kind of fairytale but with an evil twist. It cannot be classified within the Survival Horror category because (and this is an innovation) you can defend yourself from monsters that appear on your way. Indeed, this is the basic premise of the game. You are left alone in a creepy mental hospital with the only company of a voice that speaks via intercom. The game has, to some extent - some of the feel of an RPG since you can earn experience points and use them to upgrade your weapons, equipment and so on. Whilst you explore the mansion, several dreadful monsters will appear, and you will have to defeat them, either with a ranged weapon or a melée one.
In my opinion, the feature that makes this game outstanding is the voice of the old man. He can be quite funny sometimes, if you die too many times he can make jokes about you, and even when he sounds uneasy the majority of the time, he is what will make you keep on playing.
3. Garden of Fear
Let's see another game about your character waking up in an unknown place - a scary and creepy place to be precise. With this premise, I was not very convinced of playing since there are tons of similar games, but the warning in the developer's description (If you get scared easily, you shouldn't play!") made me test Garden of Fear. As I said, you wake up in a terrifying labyrinth with the sole company of a flashlight, some chalk, a compass and nothing more.
Graphically, the game is well developed, you will be able to see details of the walls and the floor, but what makes it outstanding are the music effects. I was walking around the maze, a bit scared by the situation, when someone starts breathing near to me, at my back. Well, at this point I closed the app, brought together my strength and courage and started again. Then, there is something stalking me, great. It is really scary when you hear it close to you, and the only thing you can do is to hide yourself in a corner, turn off the light and hope the monster passes by without finding you. Neither the story, nor the gameplay make this game a masterpiece. It is the soundtrack and the sound effects of the monster what will make you get goose bumps.
2. Slender Man Origins
As with Jeff the Killer, Slenderman is a character from the creepypasta stories. He is frightening and extremely lethal when he wants to be. Perhaps, the most terrifying thing about Slenderman is that his reasons for stalking, driving his targets crazy and finally destroying his victims are unknown. We don't know if he has a mission, or if he is simply a paranormal or paradimensional creature that from time to time opens doors to this world explores a random person who is capriciously chosen through simple curiosity. We only know that he can cause havoc in his victim's mind, severe memory distortion, paranoia, insomnia, and even coughing fits. Apart from what he can cause to you, he can teleport, distort images, modify its size, and all this to such an extent that he usually leads his victims to suicide.

Knowing this, you know that you are facing a cruel enemy in this game. Instead of pages (which used to be the usual thing to collect), you, as the village detective, must find seven children who have been kidnapped by this dreadful creature. In addition, in Slender Man Origins you will figure out that Slenderman is stalking people for a long time since the story of this game is set in 1702. This game is worthy of the second place in this list because it is a not like the rest of the Slender games. It has a background story, a stunning sinister soundtrack and four creepy environments. Darkness surrounds you, you can only see some steps in front of you and suddenly, your vision blurs. You know what it means; he has found you and he forces you to watch him. Try to escape as fast as you can or you will die. Indeed, you will die with a quite pathetic scream that is the only funny thing about this game.
1. In Fear I Trust
There are many kinds of horror. There are game which make you jump scared, others in which you can see horrible gory things such as corpses, blood, etc., and then, you have the psychological fear. I think this is the worst type of fear since it is in your own mind, and it can be as horrible as you can imagine. This is the kind of fear that In Fear I Trust brings. This game plants a seed of fear in your mind and once you start playing, you get paranoid about what may appear, even if actually nothing appears.
Psychological fear is the worst type of fear since it is in your own mind, and it can be as horrible as you can imagine.
In addition, it has a plot, and a very interesting plot. You wake up in a kind of asylum or research facility (what a new thing), and you are alone. You must unravel what has happened, and why you are alone. Some puzzles must be solved, but they are easy enough to keep you focused just a few minutes. Noises, sudden apparitions and gloomy flashbacks make from this game the number one on my list.
These are my top 5 horror mobile games. Do you think that these games are really scary? Would you add another game to the list? Let me know in the comments below!
